WHAT PROGRAMS DO YOU OFFER?

Do Right

This program is presented in an assembly format to students ages 12 and up and is approximately 45-50 minutes in length. It is a straight forward, thought provoking, and realistic look at the dangers and consequences of gang involvement, encourages the "good" kids to become a part of the solution and resolve conflicts without violence. The success of this program has been directly attributed to the fact that many of the kids, literally across the country, have seen Gang War: Bangin' in Little Rock and know about Steve's work.

Juvenile Violence: Symptoms & Solutions

This program is recommended to be held in the evening following the student presentations. It has been designed as a "wake-up" call for parents and focuses on community solutions. It is ninety minutes in length and has been modified from the in-service adults-only program detailed below to allow the kids age 12 and up to participate with their parents. Without exception, the parents are quite shocked when they discover just how much the kids know, whether they are involved in youth gang activity or not. The programs addresses the warning signs and identifiers and showcases programs which are successful in other communities.

Street Gang Dynamics

This in-service training program for adults only is available to educators, counselors, law enforcement and others who have an interest in or deal directly with youth. Topics for discussion will include history and identification of gang sets, profiling gang recruits, gang recruiting practices, hand signs, graffiti interpretation and possible community solutions. This program can be tailored to fit your time constraints, but normally lasts 4 hours.



WHAT IS INVOLVED IN SPONSORING A PROGRAM IN OUR AREA?

The host group is responsible for securing the location for the event and audio visual equipment. Steve's presentation is based entirely on the use of this equipment so it is very important that it be arranged so that everyone can see and hear and Steve can control the equipment himself. He will need the following equipment at each location if multiple presentations are requested: (1) video projector [multiple TV monitors are acceptable if projector is unavailable]; (2) VCR (VHS with remote pause capability); (3) Kodak 35mm carousel slide projector; (4) screen with darkened viewing area; and (5) wireless lapel microphone if room is large enough to warrant its use. The host group is also be responsible for duplicating the handout material for the adults (master copy will be provided upon confirmation of event) and any publicity for the event.

The most successful programs have been those in communities where there is a collaborative effort among the schools, businesses, churches and law enforcement and the cost of the program is shared by all. Attendance is greatly increased for the parent/community group program when held in conjunction with student programs. The frequency and manner in which the event is publicized will also affect the turnout. Sample flyers, press releases and newspaper ads are available upon request.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Costs include daily fees which vary depending upon the package of programs selected, plus all travel-related expenses such as airfare, car rental and hotel charges. Please feel free to call or write for specific program costs.

ARE THERE ANY RESTRICTIONS?

Yes. Our programs are not suitable for children under 12 years of age. There are, however, circumstances where younger children are permitted to attend, but permission must be obtained in advance. No video or recording devices are allowed.
